2020 A Baseball

(League Age 6's and 7's who have not previously played A level baseball)

A Baseball provides the player with their first experience on the full size little league field. The primary skills of baseball are reintroduced and practiced.  This league will introduce the pitched ball to the batter, either from a coach or machine.  Teams will play no more than two games per week, with additional practice sessions scheduled throughout the season.  Practices start in early April.

2020 AA Baseball

(League Ages 7, 8 and some 9's)

AA Baseball focuses on the continued development of the player's fundamental skills. Skill development at this level is on hitting the pitched ball and completing plays in the field with introduction of field and base coverage. This level also incorporates the player as a pitcher, with coach pitching after 4 balls. Teams will meet two to three times per week for practice and games. Clinic style practice sessions will start in late March, early April.

League Age 7's must have played one year of A Baseball.

League Age 8's are encouraged to Register for AAA if one year of AA has already been played.

League Age 9's should register for the AAA division. 9's will be placed in AA if there is a safety risk to the player by playing in the AAA division.

All baseball 8's & 9's must attend evaluations. Evaluations are used to determine placement in the AAA or AA divisions and to ensure that the 8's & 9's placed in the AA division are evenly distributed amongst the teams to promote competitive balance.

2020 AAA Baseball

(League Ages 8* & 9-11)

AAA baseball is designed to give players the ability to play in a major league atmosphere while playing at an appropriate skill level. The focus of AAA baseball is on continuing the development of the fundamentals of the game while introducing game strategy and competition. Scoring and standings will be maintained throughout the year. Teams will play an approximate 12 game schedule. Practices start in March.

All players Age 8 and up will be required to attend an evaluation session.

*Play-Up Option: Individuals who meet the following criteria have the option of playing up at the next level:

1) Played 1 year at the current age appropriate level.

2) Attend an evaluation session for coaches to decide if child has the ability to play at the higher level.

3) There must be room in the league in which the players want to play up into. If a child has the ability based on the coaches evaluation he/she will be assigned to a team on the higher level. If the coaches feel the child still needs further development he/she will be assigned to a team at the level that is age appropriate for the child.

2020 ELLL Baseball Hitting Clinic - 3/1

The East Lyme pre-season hitting clinic will be conducted by the East Lyme HS coaching staff and varsity players. Each LL player will be instructed on various aspects of a quality swing utilizing multiple hitting stations.

Session 1: Sunday March 1st, 2020 from 1:30 to 3PM

  • Open for all League age 7-12 Baseball Players
  • 28 Player limit
  • Location- ELHS North Gym
  • Equipment needed- Bat, Helmet, Batting Gloves, Water

2020 Juniors Softball

League Ages 13, 14, 15, and 16.
Jr/Sr League Softball focuses on development of new skills, introducing new/advanced play and strategy, reinforcing basics, and preparing the player for the High School level.

2020 Majors Baseball

(League Ages 9*,10-12)

Major League is played at a competitive level for players who have mastered or nearly mastered the fundamentals of baseball, displayed good sportsmanship, and developed the self-confidence to play competitive Little League. This league plays an intense 12 game schedule.  Practices start in March.

All players are required to attend an evaluation session.

All 12-year old players who try out are required to be drafted into the majors.

Returning majors players from last season will be eligible to be drafted by any Majors Team.

2020 Majors Softball

League Ages 11,12
Major League softball is played at a competitive level and is played according to the official Little League softball rules. Emphasis will be placed on refining the fundamentals and learning situational strategies. Bunting and stealing are introduced as well as a focus on offensive and defensive team play with the overall goal of understanding the complete game. Although this is a competitive division, player development is still a primary focus.

2020 Minors Softball (AAA)

League Ages 9 & 10 (8 yr old play-up option)*
AAA Softball focuses on the continued development of the player's fundamental skills and sportsmanship. Skill development at this level concentrates on hitting the pitched ball and completing plays in the field with introduction of field and base coverage as well as introducing game strategy and competition. This division is 'modified player pitch', meaning that players will pitch to the batter, but a coach will finish any batter that sees four balls. Scoring and standings will be maintained throughout the year, but the emphasis is on player development.

*Play-up Guidelines: Individuals who meet the following criteria are eligible to be considered for playing up at the next level:

1)  Played at least 1 year at the current age appropriate level.

2)  Attend an evaluation session for coaches to decide if child has the ability to play at the higher level.

3)  There must be a need for players in the league in which the players want to play up into.  If multiple players need to be moved up, they will be selected in order according to skill level until available slots are filled.

2020 Rookies Softball (AA)

League Age 6,7,8  AA Softball provides the player with her first experience on the full size Little League field. The primary skills of softball are introduced and practiced. Focus will be on the proper mechanics of throwing, fielding, and hitting.  This division is coach pitch but all players will be introduced to the windmill pitching technique.

2020 Tee Ball

(League Ages 4-5)

Tee Ball provides the entry level to the game of baseball and softball for young players.  This league introduces the primary baseball skills of hitting, running, catching, and throwing.  Teams play two games per week (one week day game, Tuesday or Thursday, and one Saturday morning game).  Practices start in early April.
